SERIAL NUMBER FOR ITHACA SHOTGUN?

    Made in 1958. If you put the barrel over your shoulder (like in a military parade) and look at the front edge of the receiver, you'll see the serial number there, also. The -4 is the Ithaca code number for full choke.

    As anecdotal information about the 37, I had one a long time back that had a low 4-digit number. I called Ithaca to see when it was made, and they told me that it was actually made in 1936. They said they had started production on the 37 in that year in anticipation of the expiration of some patents that were held by Remington, which were incorporated into the Model 37. The patents expired in February of 1937, by which time Ithaca had thousands of guns already made, which they then shipped immediately.

    If that serial number is on the ledge, and not on the side of the receiver it is a old model and you will not be able to interchange barrels on it.. Anything below 855,000 falls in that area...
