Stevens Maynard 22

I have recently come into possession of a Stevens Maynard 22 short rifle. It is in good condition for it's age, but the firing pin is gone. It has a hand etched serial number of 0240 by the trigger.

I have done some research and have found that due the the octagon/round barrel and the flat stock, that it was manufactured between 1900 and 1906.

What I am trying to find out is an approximate value of the gun. I know that it will cost around $30 to put a new firing pin on it, but will that lower the value since it is an antique.

    The current Flayderman's Guide lists value in Very Good condition as $250, so subtract for missing firing pin and any other defects or repairs. The hand etched "serial number" is probably some past owner's SSN last four or inventory number, and might also affect collector value.

    Thanks for the information. I'll check the guide you suggsested. Any ideas as to what might be the best avenue to sell this if I choose to?

    I wouldn't expect a replaced firing pin to lower the value much, if any. Especially in a used gun that exhibits any wear & tear whatsoever. Sure, ORIGINAL is key in the gun collecting world. But smaller un-numbered parts such as a firing don't matter much. I'd expect that a broken one would damage value more than the replacement. IF anyone even notices it.
    Sell it here. You reach a far larger market than any other venue. It'll likely bring it's market value.

    Thanks a bunch for the info.

    I went to a gunsmith today and he told me $25-$30 for the pin. I think I'll have him fix it and try to sell here. When buying an antique on this page, how does the buyer know what he is getting, just from pictures I post or will he need to see the rifle first? I am new at this so I guess I ask too many questions.

    Good pictures and an honest description and a 3 day inspection period is all you need. Bought a lot of guns that way and only sent one back because the bore was rough and the seller said it had a good bore.
