Ithaca 37 will not feed rounds
I just picked up a new Ithaca, will not feed the next round. The gun will fire, however will not bring in the next round. Actually I now have 3 rounds stuck in the reciever/ One question how do I get them out and the second question is can this be repaired easily without a gunsmith. Thanks Jeff

If the rounds are in the tube (cant get that many in the receiver) just unscrew the cap that holds the barrel on and remove the clip that holds the spring in and they will fall out........
Hang on to the spring when you remove the clip...... there should be a long spring in there.
There are 2 arms on the inside of the receiver, on each side that work the next round into the chamber, make sure they are working like they should...
One side keeps it from allowing 2 shells to move up... and you can also empty the tube by manipulating one of those arms with your finger when it's in a normal carrying position...0 -
if you have rounds in the magazine tube, simply place your right hand under the ejection port and with your thumb push in the shell stop lever on the left side of the receiver. the shell will drop into your hand. Ithaca actions must be cycled briskly to function properly. as you pull the slide to the rear the shell carrier will drop to the bottom of the ejection port and the left hand shell stop will move allowing the shell in the mag. to drop on top of it. the shell stop in the right side of the receiver will keep the next shell in the mag tube from dropping. moving the slide towards the front will move the shell carrier towards the top of receiver allowing the bolt to feed the shell into the barrel. after firing, moving the slide to the rear the extractor will pull the empty from the barrel and the shell carrier on its downward movement will eject the shell from the reciever, thus starting the load cycle. ithacas all all about timing. i've owned several of these for many years and personally never had one to malfunction. 0 -
Do both the left and right arm inside the receiver move as described in the above two posts? Ithaca 37 pumps rarely malfunction. I have both a 12 and a 20ga, zero problems over many years. I'm guessing there is just alot of old crud/grease/oil (maybe even rust?) clinging to the sides of those two arms, preventing your action from functioning correctly. Spray some Kroil or PBblaster on those parts, let set overnight, and see if things are better in the morning. Keep us posted as to what you find. 0 -
If the lifter has been bent from jams, it needs to be reformed.
Mine was and I took dimensions from one in a store and reformed it.
New spare part lifters need to be formed. They are soft.
An Ithaca gunsmith said it was his job as a new employee.0
