12ga "coach gun"

I bought a shotgun recently.
- 12ga. FULL CHOKE
- single 20" heavy barrel (not cut down)
- called a "coach gun" by the dealer
- The only markings... RANGER, 68/86 on all the parts
- Price paid -$95. Clean smooth bore, excellent condition

Who is the MGFR.
Who sold the gun, SEARS?
When was it made?
Was it a fair price?

    Many companies made guns with the Ranger name. It could have been sold by any store, but it is not listed as having been sold by Sears. If you want to post a photo, we might be able to tell you more.

    I think of a "coach gun" as a double barrel shotgun.

    If you're happy --- & the gun actually works --- it was a fair price.

    I believe Western Auto sold guns trademarked "Ranger."

    There were several shotguns with the name Ranger. Leaving off the single barrel guns, these were made by the following:
    J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co on hammerless doubles.
    Ranger Precision Grade No. 104.3. Made by Ithaca Gun Co, name used on Lefever Niro Specials made for Sears Roebuck
    Ranger Chief 104.7 Made by J. Stevens Arms Co, used on old Model 311 hammerless double made for Sears Roebuck
    Ranger (with various model number or catalog numbers) Meridian Fire Arms for Sears Roebuck.
    All of these guns would have been originally have been made with full length barrels, 26 inch or longer

    Western Auto guns were sold under the Western Auto and Revelation names, but not Ranger as far as I can tell Bill. Sears guns sold under the Ranger name were made by a variety of manufacturers including Savage, Fulton, Stevens, H&R, Winchester and Marlin. That includs singles, since Ned listed only doubles.

    So, we have established your shotgun is not actually what is commonly called a "coach gun", but we still don't know who built it. How about posting some photos?

    OP stated this is a SINGLE BARREL shotgun - it's most likely one of the dozens of CRESCENT made singles.
    It is not by "modern" standards a "coach gun" as that name seems to be reserved for short barreled doubles. The one you have, Len, has most likely been cut down from a longer barrel, despite what the dealer who sold it to you has stated.
