Iver Johnson 12 ga Shotgun
I just received an Iver Johnson 12 ga single barrel shotgun. Info with the gun states it was purchased in 1903, unknown if that was the year of manufacture or just the acquisition date. It has a nickel barrel and receiver. On the right side of the receiver is a lever which allows the removal of the barrel from the receiver after a circular ring is pulled back that is located inside the trigger guard. It may have some markings/stamps on the lower side of the barrel but I will need to get some magnification to see exactly what they are. Top of barrel is stamped IVER JOHNSON Pat apld For. Serial number is 3444. I'd like to get info on it's value or collector's interest.

the removable hinge pin you describe indicates this shotgun is fo the early type 1897-1899. this shotgun should be treated as a black powder only gun.

Bill, thanks for the info. Can you recommend any books that I can obtain which would have further info on this gun? 0 -
there are no books that are specificly about iver johnson shotgun (i hope to have one available in the near future). most books that cover older shotguns in general should have at least something about iver johnson's shotguns. the information i posted above is what i incuded in the 30th edition of the blue book and what is included in the apendix of my latest iver johnson book. for now those are the latest info available on iver johnson shotguns.
