Need Help Identifing a gun!!! Any suggestions!?!

I have a gun that my husbands grandfather purchased probably back in the 60s or 70s. I do know that it is an Amadeo Rossi for the wording on the butt of the gun. I also know it was made in Brazil. But I have no idea what type of gun it may be. I am having so much trouble finding anything like it! Its a single shot 36 cal handgun.

There is a number on the handle that says "2875"

The butt of the gun says "IND. BRAS. MARCA REG" Those words surround a triangle with what looks to be a picture of a quail inside of it.

Below that it says "Amadeo Rossi CIA." "S.Leopoldo R.G.S"

Any help to what the gun may be, as well as its value would be a great help

    It sounds like you have a Rossi revolver. This was an inexpensive line of fairly well made Brazilian firearms imported to the U.S. by the now defunct Interarms of Alexandria, VA. They did make many revolvers in .38 Special Caliber, however I believe they also made black-powder reproductions (which would probably be in .36 Caliber as you indicated). Can you please post a picture?

    It's def not a revolver... its a single shot, loaded on the top of the gun in a single chamber. I can't figure out how to load pictures on here. What is your email address. I can send it that way.

    How long is the barrel, and does it have rifleing in it?

    I do not know what rifleing is... the barrel is about a foot long I guess. I know absolutley nothing about guns... to be honest I have never even fired a bb gun! [:p]

    When you shine a light down the end of the barrel is it smooth and shiney or does it have grooves in it?

    The very end appears smooth... but further up the barrell I can see some grooves... they look like rings

    the markings in the barrel do not look the the ones pictured here. They are not long ways... they are in rings around the diameter of the barrel. Dont know if that helps any

    If the barrel is less than 18" long and has a smooth bore its kinda illegal to own, without a bunch of special lincenes and tax stamps. Do a google search for "H + R Handy Gun". They look alot like yours, I wasn't aware that Rossi made one though.

    If it can be determined that the gun came from the factory in this configiration, a collector with the proper paperwork might go a few hundred dollars but I'm not sure I've never saw one of these sold before. Since its a family heirloom I'd lock it up in a safe and not tell anyone about it.

    I guess I'll keep this up incase anyone else might know more about it. I'm not sure I want to keep it in my house if I could get in trouble for it! lol Maybe I will try to find a collector who could better appriciate it.

    I am assuming that pushing the button on the side breaks open the action -- if that is true, then it is not a cut-down rifle as their rifles have a different type of release.
    Looking on the web, I keep seeing references to a rossi "rocket pistol" with different chamberings, but I can't find any information or even a picture of it. (One old forum posting says that Rossi never brought them into the U.S.)

    I love single shot pistols, and I am going to keep searching on this. It is hard to put a value on it with no other references, but I would guess it might bring $200-$250 on the auction side.

    yes, you are correct. The button on the side. I have a feeling it was never marketed in the states. I believe my husbands grandfather brought it in himself.

    After hearing that is may not be legal I'm not sure what to do with it. Maybe I should just throw it into a river somewhere!

    the rocket pistol looks similar but this gun is much older.. I'm sure its not in a manual

    When you look down the barrel, you say that you see rings. I think that you are seeing rifling, so the gun is not illegal to have.
    Any person who is familiar with firearms wil be able to look at it and tell if it is rifling (legal) or not. As long as it is legal, it does have some value.

    yeah, there are definitley rings in the barell. I wish I could find out more about it. I just have no idea where to look.
