Unknown .22 Rifle

I was given a .22 Rifle that needs to have a new striker put in the bolt assembly; however, I cannot find out who made this .22 Rifle. The only markings stamped on the entire rifle are the number 14 in a circle on the barrel, and the name "Northwesterner" on the receiver. Is there anyone who might know or have an idea of the manufacturer? Thanks in advance,

    If you could, please post some pictures. That would be a great help. There is a sticky near the top of the Ask the Experts forum, that explains how to do so...you will need to use a photohosting website such as photobucket.

    Thanks for the tip on downloading photos. I do not have any photos of the rifle at this time, but will try to get some up by tonight as I have to head out to work. I also forgot to mention previously that it is a Single Shot Bolt Action Rifle. Thanks again for your help,

    14 in circle on the barrel sounds like a Savage proof. I've seen the 14 proof on Savage Model 3 bolt action single shots. Which is what I would bet it is. The Model 3 was Savages economy model in the 1930's. And was sold under Savage, Stevens, Springfield MFG names. And under some store brand names as well.
    Good shooters. There were several different upgraded models during the production run. With the differences being principly in bolt/safety design. The ones I've seen w/the 14 proof were all of the early 1st model. Parts are a hard find on these.

    Welcome to the whacky world of vintage Savage/Stevens rimfires. Where ANYTHING is possible.
    That rifle sure looks like a Savage Model 3 to me. Which it may be. Savage owned Stevens and both commonly made the same basic rifle w/different model numbers. (And in the case of Springfield,also a Savage sub, no model number at all).
    During the 1930's, virtually all Savage/Stevens single shot rifles were based on the Savage Model 3 receiver. But there were modifications as the models evolved beyond the 1st model. Most mods centered in bolt/trigger configuration and can be most easily ID'd by close inspection of bolt. I would like to see some detailed pics of the bolt if possible. To help in trying to give a positive ID for your parts search.
