    goliath8,

Anything is possible although the problem you describe is unusual without something else being changed first.

What you're describing is called 'overtiming' or the barrel with sights is turned past top dead center which is for proper sight alignment. This is rare in factory rifles as the sights are usually added last. Without seeing and measuring the rifle and barrel, it's possible that the barrel was removed and set back ever so slightly or even one full turn plus a tiny bit too much, allowing it to be turned past top dead center when it was put back on.

This can be fixed by a gunsmith by taking the barrel off and setting it back again but the chamber will have to re-cut also for proper headspace.

    Best.
