Bert, 7mm model 70 fwt.

I bought a new Winchester model 70 featherweight in 7mm Mauser for my wife in 1982.The serial number is G1538XXX. The rubber recoil pad says Winchester Repeating Arms in a round logo. Was this one of the last guns produced before the sale? I remember reading that after the sale the logo was changed to something else. Also I believe that very few featherweights were manufactured before the company sold. Thank you, Eddie

    Hello Eddie,

    Unfortunately, it was assembled by the U.S. Repeating Arms Company after they took control of the former Winchester factory. When the U.S.R.A.Co. first started up, they used leftover parts until they had all of their new dies, stamps, and molds made. The last Winchester made Model 70 is alleged to be serial number G1525323.

    Winchester manufactured a fair number of Featherweight rifles from their introduction in 1952, through the end of production in late 1980.
