shooting rests
I have always had trouble holding on a cardboard or paper target for sighting in my rifles. I am always tensed and wanting to be dead on so I know where I am hitting and on a 4 or 5 inch circle my crosshairs shake all over it. As I get older it gets worse. I don't have any problem out hunting I can shoot off hand at deer or antelope a few hundred yards away and not shake at all. It's just the target and sighting in. I know I waste more ammo that necassary sighting in just because I can't hold steady enough.
I use sandbags for a rest.
I have been thinking about getting a shooting rest. I was wondering if a rest would be helpful and if it would be a good idea? If so what is the best one to get? I had a cheap one a few years ago it was small and only cost $35 dollars and that was a waste of money. I have seen those Caldwell Lead Sleds on the outdoor channel where they put an egg behing them and it does not even break the egg. Are theses Caldwells good? Or is there something else I should be looking at?

Yep, didn't do the egg test but my Caldwell sled (rigged with $1.99 straps [:p]) is awesome. As you can see I was using my snow chains as weight [;)]! I was sighting in my SAKO M995 in .300WM when the pix was taken.

I use a lead sled myself, with bags of lead shot. I don't have a condom on my barrels however.[}:)] 0 -

the lead slead is great, but for a less expensive option, MTM makes an adjustable pistol rest that i use to steady my rifles for sighting in. works great with a laser bore sight.
also might want to get one of those resonator doo-dads like feenix has.0 -
I don't like to "arrest" the recoil of a rifle for accuracy work. I prefer a front rest and a rear bag to allow the movement.
Your budget will determine a lot of the choices.
I use a Bald Eagle front rest with protektor rear bags0
