It is a square butt ( with no landyard ring like the Colt 1917.) I'm sorry, but i'm not sure who makes grips for this old work horse.

this gentleman does OUTSTANDING work and can even bring back worn stocks to look new again--be forewarned he is not cheap. Keith is a well respected S&W stock guy.

By dress it up do you mean replacement grips or trying to find origional grips. They are N Frame Square Butt grips. There are minor variations is grip frame so try them first with replacement grips.

Replacement grips. I already have the originals but I would like to see if maybe some kind of after market grip would work. Something similar to an N frame grip.

    royc38,

    Check out www.grashornsgunworks.com/

Email Patrick & I'll bet he will either have or be able to make something to dress the ol' gal. Amazing how custom grips can turn an old workhorse into a "BBQ GUN".

I have one just like it. It is an "N" frame. Any grip for an S&W N frame with square butt will fit it. I have pachmyers on mine. I removed the lanyard ring attachment from mine. Eddie

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of that would you? If not, how do you like that grip versus the original? This was something I was seriously considering for mine.

Royc38, No pictures, it is kind of an ugly gun with the black rubber grips & all. I have 9 sets of Pachmayr grips on various handguns. I like them. Be advised that they come in two sizes small & large for different hand sizes. Many years ago I put a pair of Pacs on my wife's carry gun, a Smith model 36. You can probably get a used pair right here on G.B.. Try the wanted forum first. Eddie

Thank you for the advice. I was originally thinking of the Pachmayr grips you described. Sorta something that you would see on a 629 or a 625. I didn't know if they would fit and being a Colt man I did not know if it was a round or square butt. Now at least I know it is a square. Thanks again for your help, I will let you know how it turns out.
