There are also 40 round mags. EG:

    EDIT: http://tinyurl.com/lft554

Some mags can't be loaded to their nominal capacity, because the spring is too tight.

Edit: If you look at the reviews above, many of them indicate that getting the last 4-5 rounds in there is REALLY hard. . .I bet you that's what the the problem is here.

You are correct. He needs to load the mag and let it sit a while loaded to break it in.

as said, it is most likely a 40 round mag.. in addition to 40 round mags, there are 50 and 75 round box magazines for the SKS.

There are also 75 and 100 round drums for the SKS, I have been told that there may even be a 120 round SKS drum, buf if so I have never seen one.

    75 rnd drum

I think USA magazines made a 70rd curved magazine (non-drum). Those "detachable" SKS mags are junk. It's rare to find one that works and even if you do it takes 3 hands to get them in and out of the gun.

If you want detachable magazines best bet is to buy a SKS D model that was made from the factory to take AK magazines or buy an AK.

The SKS works best with the standard 10rd fixed magazine.

Thanks a lot for the insight, my buddy wants $10.00 for it so I'm gonna buy it and leave it with the gun but uninstalled, I figure it will make the weapon a tad bit more attractiveto a potential buyer because it has "options" . I don't shoot this anyways as I favor my other American style military weapons anyhow.

The advice as always is greatly appreciated. :o)
