The Valmet is a Finnish-made improvement on the Kalashnikov, using a modified foreend (for better cooling), enlarged triggerguard for shooting with gloves (its cold in Finland), and proper long-radius peep sights. The later models have folding stocks.
The Israelis borrowed liberally from the Valmet in designing the famous Galil rifle. The Galil is substantially similar with a good folding tubular stock, ambidextrous upswept cocking handle, and a few other minor changes.
Due to the importation ban against foreign made semi-auto weapons, true Valmets are relatively scarce in the USA, and they are fairly desireable.
For a .223 Valmet in good condition figure $1200-1800 depending on which exact model and specs, exact condition, and what comes with it. .308 Valmets are going to be worth even more. Authentic Valmet mags are scarce and extremely expensive (EG over $100 each).0 -

There were (3) .308 Cal. Valmet's semi-autos imported in the late 80's for a short time. Hunter Model, Model 78 & Model 76. Need quality photos for identification. They would all be big buck items, if factory original and in at least very good condition, $1200-$2400.0 -
