Generally Federal Ordnance used surplus GI parts and made their own receivers. 03s, carbines and such. They were known to be of moderate quality. Not the worst but not as good as GI manufacture.

Early FedOrd M1A rifles were built using mostly USGI M14 parts. After appx. serial 9000 they switched to all Chinese parts except the receiver. Most experienced M1A aficionados turn their noses up at FedOrds due to the many problems that have been encountered with them.

They had intermittent quality control problems from start to finish so it can be a crapshoot. Some work ok, some don't. Some of the bad ones can be fixed with a little tinkering and some require major work.
