Firing pin on Ballard rifle.

I have an antigue Marlin Ballard rifle circa 1880. It is 38 rim fire caliber with what is referred to as a "reversable firing pin". You can adjust the firing pin from rimfire to centerfire. At this time it is set up to fire rimfire. Can anyone tell me what to do to set it for centerfire? I`d like to set it up so I can fire the gun using 38 Colt ammo.If you have any advice please send it to me at my EM address grayfoxx3@hotmail.com as I do`nt often have time to check in on the forum.     Hello I don't know about a ballard but My marlin had two firing pins one stored under the butt plate. the firing pin was flat and all shap was the sme except the tip the pin was 1/4 inch tall and the last. 1/32 of an inch had a tit on the top for rim fire and the other one a tit on the bottom for centerfire. If you remove your firing pin and post a picture we may be able to give you a suggestion.

    The firing pin is reversed to go from RF to CF.

    shyguy....to reverse the firing pin you need to remove the breechblock from the receiver. Remove the screw that is a pivot for the lever and everything will come out the bottom of the receiver.

    You will need to separate the breechblock into the two halves by removing the screws that go through it. Inside you will find the firing pin that is a two pronged affair. The firing pin is reversed top to bottom, not end to end. One of the prongs is longer than the other. For centerfire, the long prong is toward the bottom of the breechblock, for rimfire, towards the top. And that's all there is to it.
