Rem. Model 1148/Mohawk gold trigger question

The gun will fire, eject the spent shell, pick-up and load second shell, then will not fire.If the action is operated, by hand, it will eject live shell, reload another and then fire.
Seems like all it won't do is cock it's self.
Could the cocking/trigger group being dirty cause this malfunction?
If so, can i just punch out the pins, take out trigger group and spray out with ether/starting fluid to clean?
