My new anniversary gift...Webley & Scott w/pics
My wife bought me a Webley & Scott 1012 over/under 12g shotgun for our 3rd wedding anniversary. I'm by no means a gun collector as I only own a Remingtom 1170 (for duck hunting) and a 9mm Smith & Wesson sigma (haven't even shot yet). Anyway, I always kind of wanted an over/under shotgun just for the prestige of it. I always had a Browning Citori on my mind. Anyway... got the Webley & Scott and know absolutely nothing about them. Is it a top of the line, average, or entry level gun? In other words, is this a wow factor gun or just another run of the mill. I did see it was numbered 521 of 10,000. Any help?

Never heard of it, but a Google got some favorable reviews by British publications and shooters.
I note the "Made in Italy" stamp, which is what I thought when I saw the first picture of one. Not unusual in the present market, I have read of the "Holland-Beretta under-over, too.0 -
Yeah, next to the trigger guard it says "Made in Italy." On the barrel, it says, "Made in England." My wife picked this up at Bass Pro, in which, they keep them in the Fine Gun Room. I've just never heard of them and neither has anyone I've spoke with. The gentleman at Bass Pro said they are custom made and that I shoud walk very proud with that gun. Just looking for some more feedback. 0 -
Run with the information you already have. No sense in finding out the shotgun may be "down a peg" from your expectations. Remember: It has 'wow' factor. Not all that common. When at the range, take it out of the guncase, and let 'em gawk!!!
...just give your wife a big kiss, and let it go at that!
EDIT-Info Added
If that guncase is Webley and Scott, I believe it was issued with a few greasepots in the holes, an 'eye jag', and the bottom recess is meant to carry a wooden segmented cleaning rod inside a cloth, or leather 'sock'. Look carefully for evidence of the cleaning rod 'printing' on the guncase. If so, some stock boy left it on the shelf back at the shop. Best again, Joe0 -

She definitley got a big kiss! You're right, it does have that wow factor. You should have seen my face. I guess it's just one of those things...when you get something like this, you become involved with it and want the history and all the info you can find on it. That way, when someone asks you about it, you know what to tell them. Unfortunatley, their website is under construction right now. That's why I came here. The salesman at Bass Pro told me to come to this site as well.0 -
With a little research you will find that Webley and Scott build a gun several notches above the Citori you coveted. This appears to be a gun built for them in Italy to their specifications and standards. Beautiful wood. If you don't like it I would be willing to take it and that wife with such fine taste off your hands so you can go get that Citori without hurting her feelings. 0 -

Haha, my wife told me a few people told her that on her way out of Bass Pro. I was so shocked she had it registered and picked it out herself. The only thing she knew was that I wanted on O/U with "pretty" wood. Haha. She liked it the best and I believe it cost the most as well. They had some SxS Webley's that cost a little more. Overall, I'm still smiling.0 -
