Garand Clip Modification
Can anyone explain to me how - or is it even possible - to modify a clip for an M-1 Garand?
I would like the clip to hold only three rounds and NOT eject when the last round is fired.
Presently we load five empty rounds below the three live (blank) rounds for our ceremonial rifles (Color Guard - military funerals). Of course, this means that an empty round is chambered when the last round is fired. This round, being a previously fired empty, is then "stuck" in the chamber making it difficult to remove. Most of the time I have to kick the Op Rod with my boot to get the thing open.
It is important that the clip not be ejected when the third round is fired. We are lucky if we can find some of the fired rounds for the family - especially in the Winter snow. I don't want to have to be digging in the snow for the clips too!

Hello take some of the EMPTY FIRED cases and run them through a full length sizing die. with the decapping rod removed This will make the cartridge and the neck of the empty small enough that then it will be EASY to eject these empty cases[^] 0 -
I have seen two round clips for target shooting (shoot two rounds, then reload with eight for a 10 shot string) and five round clips for hunting. No reason not to fudge the dimensions to hold three.

I do not know how to alter the clip or the magazine to not eject the empty clip, but I bet it can be done.0 -

Rather than a fired round, I would suggest you either put five snap caps in an 8 round clip or two in a five round clip. The clip will not eject, and, from my experience anyway, the plastic snap caps are easily extracted from the chamber.0 -
No, you can't modify an M1 clip; they are tempered spring steel, & are made to extremely close dimensions.
The veterans organizations whose rifles I have repaired use a clip loaded with 8 blanks; when they fire < 8 rounds, they put the safety ON & march back to the assembly area, where they clear their rifles.

Its been too many years since my M1 days, but if I remember right, the
guys in the VFW fooled with the gun, not the clips. I think they "adjusted" the cycling so the M1 won"t reload or eject. They manually
jacked a new blank into the chamber for each of the three shots. The guns were ONLY used for funerals. Bob0 -

An adjustable gas lock valve can do that0 -
With respect to earlier posts; making a three (or what-ever) shot clip that stays in the gun is easy. A dremmel tool, a set of pliers and about ten minutes. Over the years I'll bet I've made more than 100 Single Load Enhancement Devices (SLEDs) two shot, and five shot clips. If I can get your mailing address I'll make you one and you can copy it or get it copied as many times as you'd like. Piece of cake. 0 -
