Ruger Red label sticking ejectors

I just got this older Ruger 12 ga. it looks new. I went to shoot skeet the other night and the first shot the shell stuck, I use a rod to pop the shell, about 1 out of 4 times. After cleaning and lubing the ejectors it still bothered, without a shell the ejectors worked ok. If I put a empty shell in the chamber and fired the gun it would work sometimes then not.

Ruger said send it back and we will take a look. What is the problem? I need some help. Thanks

    Could be plastic build up in the chambers remember bore brush does not clean chambers or the shells you are using some promo shells dont seem to work as well as say Winchester AA. or some one sprayed it with WD 40 and stored it, if this was done you may be able to flush the GLUE/VARNISH out with carb cleaner be careful with this around any wood finish or use some Kroil on the parts.


    EDIT sounds like someone sprayed it with WD40 for long term storage and what they did by mistake was to varnish the parts [:(] Kroil or brake cleaner is the only way I know to dissolve that crap. but brake cleaner will ruin wood finish. separate the metal from the wood.

    Perry Shooter gave good advice. In addition, I've found that plastic shells carried in your pocket and/or used in humid conditions leave moisture in the chambers, causing rust in the chambers of my Red Label, which in turn cause the shells to stick.
    I always clean and lube the chambers after shooting mine and no longer have a problem.

    Slighty fowled chambers could be the problem. So could chamber pitting or deep scratches When you cleaned and lubricated the ejectors, did you remove the ejectors and springs? Crud and water can get behind the ejectors and gum things up. If the older Ruger was stored for a long time assembled, I guess the springs could possibly retain that memory and become weak. Although that seems a remote possibilty. I prefer to store my RRL in pieces and as a back up, purchased extra ejectors and springs from Ruger.

    The gun was stored for the past 20+ years. And I don't think it has more then 25 -50 rounds through it. I did lub the ejectors and I think sprng memory could be the hot tip. I did have 3 miss fires on the lower chamber. Next Wed. night is skeet night we will try it again.

    if you don't figure it out, I'd guess dried lube, send it back to ruger and they will go thru it most likely for free

    I did sent it back to Ruger, and when I talked to them yesterday it sounds like they rebuilt the hole gun. The list of new parts was long. And never mentioned money. If I get it back by Wednesday that was two weeks, not bad for turnover time. And the staff are great bunch of people, very helpfull. This was the second time I have sent a gun back to Ruger. The first was last year went I got my new Hawkeye and I found a crack in the stock. And the turnover was fast that time also. And that why Ruger is my fist choice in guns.
