antique muzzleloader

I'm looking for information on an antique muzzleloader. It came over to the US from Germany with my relatives in the mid 1800's. It's a double barrel gun, with 30" damascus steel barrels, and a walnut stock. On one side are the engraved words, 'Schaefer and Blank'. Haven't had any luck searching for this name and thought someone might know something. Ultimately interested in assessing the value. Thanks

  Anything like a reasonable appraisal needs some good pictures here. A hipshot estimate would be from about $100 for a complete, functional old brown gun up to many hundred more depending on various factors. An average quality German shotgun with a half its original finish on it might bring $300 or so.

  If your gun was made in Germany I would expect it to be marked "Sch?fer und Blank" instead of the English "Schaefer and Blank". If you know how to safely remove the barrels I suggest that you do that and see if there are any marks on the underside of the barrels. If you are unsure on how to remove them, then please do nothing. Pictures are the key, need some good ones.
