can you even buy a gun in california
hi all im a navy vet who tired of not being able to buy the guns I see on here that i like its either illegal or no one wants to sell them to ca. and im talking just some of your basic hand guns .lucky for me the mossberg bullpup is legal here if i can just get someone willing to sell to ca. if you know anyone willing to sell one let me know thanks and is there anyway we can get these laws changed back to have our freedom of choice

I live in northern CA. Between Sacramento and San Jose - a grand total of about 120 miles, maybe less - there are at least 30 gun stores, each about 5 minutes off Rte 80 and Rte 101. No idea where you are, but I'm pretty sure there's more than a few gun stores nearby.
If you post your general location I'm sure folks here will give their "this is my favorite gun store" opinions.0 -
If its legal to ship there, then find people that are selling what you want and offer them extra $$ to deal with the extra paperwork and other carp to ship there. Some won't on principal I'm sure, but a few might if there is money involved. 0 -
the guns have to be on the CDJ ok list for an FFL to sell to cali they have to register with the state the only one in the nation to do this,,so will most won't ,,i won;t i am all ready licensed in the nation by the feds ..i will not register with a communist regiem[:0] 0 -

Thank you for helping the anti-gunners. By choosing not to sell to Californians, you are in effect assisting in enforcing a gun ban.
And remember, if it looks like it is working in California, the anti gunners in other states might start to think it looks like a pretty good idea for their states.0 -

a. Yes you can buy guns in CA. If you need to know how, go to any gun dealer, of which there are many who would be thrilled to have your business and sell you some.
b. If there is a particular gun you want, again, go talk to your friendly local dealer, who might be able to help you get it, or perhaps a reasonably comparable model that is both legal and available.
Alternatively, you can TRY looking at online auctions (like on this site), want ads, etc for a used gun that you are looking for, but to coin a phrase, that will be "hit and miss".
The situation is similar in MA, where "importation" of most new guns is banned, leaving very few (and largely uninteresting) new ones available for purchase.
c. If you don't like the law in CA, you do what everyone else does. You contact your legislator, and you join professional lobby groups (eg a local gun advocacy group) to try and get the law changed. I wouldn't hold my breath for any de-regulation of guns in the bankrupt State of CA, but its not absolutely impossible. There actually HAS been a growing trend of liberalization of concealed carry across the country, and in *some* instances, gun control in some places has been relaxed a little bit. If you don't try it DEFINITELY won't happen.0 -

Jess, The Calif DOJ "approved" list only applies to handguns, not rifles or shotguns. You can still buy M1A's, Mini 14's, M1 Carbines and Garands as well as other military type rifles.
You can even buy AR-15's here as long as the lower is set up for a "bullet button" mag release or a fixed 10 rd mag. You can also buy non-list handguns that are "private party" transfers and there are plenty of them.
There are 3 gun shops within 10 mins of my house and another 5 or 6 shops within 30 mins.
There are still plenty of folks here who will sell to calif, so I do business with them. The ones too lazy to do business here will get none of my money, even for a set of ear plugs.0 -
So why don't you help the people of California by giving them free guns? Oh I forgot you don't want to help.[;)]

Guys....especially the out-of-state FFL's.....the latest California law that has all of you ticked off....it isn't about gun control, it's about MONEY!!! This is the retail dealers association getting together with our "gun friendly" legislature and putting together a bill that will cause out-of-state FFL's to stop selling to California. Now the in-state dealers get more sales at higher prices (less competition) so they're happy, the state is happy because it collects higher tax amounts on those higher priced sales and the only ones that get screwed are the local gun nuts and the out-of-state FFL holders.
They apply the same rules to the in-state FFL holders to stay out of court on restriction of commerce.
Notice it's only FFL to FFL, a non-FFL holder (out-of-state) can ship to a FFL here without any new restrictions. An out-of-state FFL can ship to a C&R holder here without new restrictions. Either can ship an antique weapon without new restrictions. See the pattern......it's the MONEY!!!!!
I suspect the retail dealers association and the state are laughing all the way to the bank at your expense...........sorry, it's about reducing competition, not gun control in the case.

P.S. The NRA blinked on this bill because the dealers said it was OK. And a lot of the in-state dealers are P.O.'ed because they have to go through the same BS.0 -

Agreed - sometimes the CA legislature's antigun leanings are expolited for money, not just for gun control. Might also be their approach on AB962, which not coincidentally bans mail order ammo sales - requiring CA residents to buy from (and pay tax) local retailers.0
