Need Help Pricing a 1976-1980 Colt MKIV/Series 70
Hey, new here, although I often can be found on a local MI gun board, Glock Talk, and M4Carbine. Anyways, looking to see if any 1911 .45ACP experts can help me out on pricing a pistol. Got a Colt MKIV/Series 70 Government Model .45ACP in blued finish with the wood grips and gold Colt medallions. The gun has a 5" barrel and I would say is in 92%+ condition with only about 100 rounds down the pipe since the gun was bought new. The G70 suffix in the serial number indicates the gun was made between 1976-1980 and my uncle who recently passed it down to us bought it brand new somewhere between 1976-1980 (more towards the later end according to him although he does not remember exactly). The gun is 100% original (recently put in Wolf springs but saved the originals) and even has the original magazine, original owners manual, original Gun World magazine offer, and the original box. Any idea on the value of this firearm as I want to list it for sale but I have no idea what it would be worth. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the actual selling prices on the two big net gun auctions for commercial Colts. Now is not the best time to sell though, hold on to it if you can. The price in the condition you describe will only go up. 0 -

Hello Different parts of the country will have some play into what it will bring With box and papers this will help the price but I will be very surprised if you get a buy it now bidder. IMHO the series 70 was the best pistols colt has made since WW II . Seems a shame to sell a family piece. I to would keep it as when things get better the value will go up faster then the stock market. Just my $.02 0 -
Don't sell yourself short. From the pictures I saw that is at least a 98% gun. With current market a government model in that condition will bring $800 ~ $850. 0 -

In fact, with the probable coming inflation, pretty much ANY quality gun is going to be a desirable investment as a hedge.
If you need the money, that's one thing, but if you don't, I'd suggest holding onto this thing.
Series 70 Colt 1911s aren't going DOWN in value anytime soon, that's for sure, and I suspect ones in excellent condition with the original box are, in fact, likely to appreciate faster than the rate of inflation.0 -

Thanks for the responses everyone. Don't need the money, but can't justify buying another firearm without letting one go. I am not a collector and to me guns, knives, etc. are tools that serve a functional purpose; I am not one to lock and store a gun but rather use it. As I will not use this gun due to its value and collectibility, it is of no use to me. No real sentimentality with this firearm either so that is of no issue. As such, for sale she goes. Also regarding percentage condition, it could be 98%, or any other percent - I would guess somewhere in the 90s - but then again I have no idea what qualifies a gun as X% but figured 100% is new, 98% new but handled, 95% maybe used a few times, 92% shot a few mags, etc. To be honest it could be higher than 92%, look at the pics, you probably know better than I in that regard. And Doc, no, but we'll leave the silver bullet tests for you to administer [;)] (S/F); civ buddies of mine are new doctors and they get me the gloves for when I don't feel like bathing in CLP or Militec, etc. Here is a link to the auction:
