I could use some formulas for reloading 6mmx.284. thanks

    I have a couple of question on brass for 6mmx282. First, if I get new brass, (.284) in order to neck the new brass down to 6mm, would the 6.5x284 dies work to gradually neck down to 6mm or do I have go with something different? Second, is there a company that makes brass already necked down to 6mmx284? Thanks

    You need to be a little more specific about your needs for load data. I have bunches of information that is specific for competition and other information that I use for hunting. Any loads that we have will not necessarily translate into accuracy loads given your rifle. Every rifle is different so you still have to test.

    If your looking for a place to start for general reloading, look for data on the .240 Weatherby and use the minimum loads to start your testing.

    This is going to be very, very general, because I do not know what you wish to use the loads for, etc.

    As nononsense suggested above, minimum loads for the 240 Weatherby are a good starting point as the capacities of the cases are very similar. Some years ago, I loaded for my 240 Weatherby, and used IMR-4350 and an 85 grain Sierra boat tail hollow point that I believe they still offer. I cannot tell you the grains of powder, but it was a reasonabley mild load, not close to maximum, and I recall that I estimated velocity at perhaps 3400 fps or so. This load was quite accurate in my rifle at about .6 MOA.

    I also loaded Nosler 95 grain Partitions for deer and pronghorns, and used IMR-4831, and this was closer to maximum, but again, I do not recall the powder charge. This load was more than accurate enough for game hunting at under 1.0 MOA.

    I did not use the lighter bullets much at all, assuming that the large case would tend to do better with moderate and heavier 6mm bullets.

    I know this is very general, but hope it is somewhat useful. Good luck experimenting with that cartridge!

    I used 49 gr. of H4831sc Ex. behind a 95 gr. Nosler BT. 50 behind a 90 gr. bullet and 52 behind an 80 gr. bullet. I also had success with H4350Ext and Re-17, RE-19, and RE-22.

    The latest Sierra and Hornady both have information on this cartridge. I would suggest you buy one or the other. I also have the information in my 1973 Hornady, which doesn't separate brands of types of powder. I suggest you work up slowly if you ever find that one. I also found some loads over on Reloadersnest.com
