Help with two S&W ser#s

From the rainy south [8D],

Anyone help me with the years on these two S&W J frame revolver ser#s?

J791412 & ANP8017...

Thanks! Any engineering change info?

  Mr. Hawke,
  
  The J791XXX dates to 1981, probably the first 1/4 of the year.
  
  The ANP prefix number dates from late 1986 or early 1987.
  
  Inside the crane (with the cylinder open) will be a model # followed by a dash #. List the specific model & dash # so we can tell you the engeneering change that generated that dash #.
  
  If you have the original box the gun came in from the factory, the end label will be coded under 'features'. If you have that info. I can translate it to the specific features your gun left the factory with.

  J791412 should be 1981. Not sure about the other one; maybe 1986/87. If you provide the model numbers, with any -#s we might be able to help with engineering change info. That might also help to home in on the manufacture date of the second one.
