m1d conversion

Is it possible to convert a regular m1 to an m1d? what parts would I need to buy and would it be cheaper than buying one outright or is that just a dumb idea anyways? thanks guys

  I just read a post one the CMP fourm on this topic and it concluded that you should just by the real thing. CMP has some for sale now and then, they just went thourgh a batch.

  When parts were relatively inexpensive, it was common. But, it's become more difficult. The special barrel required is especially difficult to find. There are several "correct" scopes, but they are also getting expensive. The rifle alone will cost in the area of $2,000, including parts.
  
  Because all the original parts needed for the conversion have been available, you can't look at a rifle & tell if it is a genuine military conversion, or a Bubba job. The important thing is the documentation, usually CMP sales receipt & packaging. A complete CMP M1D will sell in the $3,500-4,000 in minty condition.
