Converted Springfield 03 Rifle

I have a Springfield 03 converted to a sporting stock with peep sight and leather sling. It's in good condition and has been stored for several years. I would like to know approx. value if I should decide to sell. I do have pictures, but could not for some reason attach/embed in this message. I can email images. Thank you, Geo

    Your rifle could be anything from a amateur project made on Bubba's kitchen table to a near work of art made by a master gunsmith. I collect the 1922 series Springfield .22's and the 1903 NRA Sporters. With a lot of luck you might have an NRA Sporter. If you will forward me photos I may can give you some suggestion of the quality and value. I will need to know the serial number and barrel date. hsgarner@tds.net

    GB has in my opinion not good instructions for posting pics

    Get a photobucket account. Then upload the photos. Copy and paste the very last tag under the image that is now in your album into the message body

    Hello a converted rifle would take a BIG hit as to value. We also need the serial number you can use XX for the last to digits of the serial number if you want but use the right number of digits. The reason we need this information is some LOW number rifles are unsafe to fire. Pictures will have to be put on site's like PHOTO BUCKET and then loaded

    Like Herschel said it could be anything and no way to know without more info and pictures. Some converted 1903's can be worth many, many times what an original unaltered rifle would bring.

    Geo47 emailed me photos of the rifle. The stock is apparently a Fajen or Bishop. No checkering but appears well fitted. A Lyman 48C is mounted on the receiver. The front sight is an aftermarket globe type mounted with a band around the barrel (not GI). The finish is parkerized. Bolt is original type unmodified. It has the milled trigger guard assembly. Serial nuimber is 15255XX. (I am not a serial number X'er but this is someone else's rifle.) The serial number is not on SRS Sales list but falls close to some receivers that were sold in 1940. I estimated the value as $250-$300 with about half that being the Lyman 48 sight.
