Most if not all model 720's were made as a special AWARD RIFLE given to Military shooters They used to give one at Camp Perry National Championship Pistol Matches every year . I had a friend that won 3 of them but he sold all of his. [:(][V]As an award rifle I did not buy one of his as I did not win it.

Blue Book thinks a commercial 720 is worth $1200 - $1500 with 98% finish; a trophy gun nearly twice as much. That does not, of course, guarantee you can find one or get it for that price.

My neighbor in the cabin next to mine in Northern Wisconsin just mentioned a couple days ago he has one for sale.

I have a Remington Model 720 as well and Im curious as to what the true market value is?
This is my late Grandfathers gun, so I admit it is hard to value it and keep sentimental bias out of the situation.
Ive attempted to have it appraised professionally, however they were very hesitant to come up with a precise figure as they didnt have any in their database to compare it to.
This is a "civilian" model, not one of the trophies given out by the military during their sharpshooter competitions and it is in fantastic original condition.

Has anyone heard of any sold recently or can anyone point me to someone who knows these guns to advise me?

No - same stock for all models - -

    Options of caliber (30-06 / 270 / 257 Rem Roberts)
    Options of Barrel Length (20 / 22 / 24)
Options on sights (about 10 options)

"it has a black tipped fore end and a cheek rest. any ideas what this stock was made for?"....possibly a costom shop or delux rifle or an after market stock (fagen, bishop, ect.) for the m-1917.
