Savage Model 29 Info
I looking for a information on a savage 29 pump 22. It has checkered forearm and stock. Serial number 129129 with a small L under that number. It has a octagon barrel and a tube mag. it has a SVg on the butt plate. Is there a web site that you can type in the serial number for dates?

No website for dates. The only possible way to obtain MFG date on a specific gun is to contact the Savage historian and pay for his service. Contact info is available on the Savage website. 0 -
I went to the Savage website. The gentleman only has a snail mail address and the book they recommend has little, if any, original text. In my opinion, it is simply a compilation of old catalogs and old articles. 0 -

You are absolutely correct. Such is the generally poor state of available info on vintage Savage/Stevens.
I own the Savage/Stevens collector reference book, and agree that it is of minimal help. But better than nothing.
Plus there the factor of "Never say never" in regard to vintage Savage/Stevens rimfires. Undocumented oddball variations turn up w/regularity.
About the best you can do is general model MFG dates (Start to end) and sometimes some cosmetic differences. For example, my references say that Model 29's w/checkered stocks are Pre-WW-2. But that may not be a hard fact, as I have heard of later 29-A's w/checkered stocks.
One thing I can say, the Model 29 is a damned good shooting rifle.0
