Wincheester mod 1897
I am trying to get a model defined and value of my 1897 shotgun. The info I can provide is as follows. No rust, some pitting in barrels, works smoothly, shooting condition.
Stock assm - sr no C165571, metal butt plate, exposed hammer. Barrel #1, sr no 165571, 30" barrel ribbed pump handel, "12" and "full" marking on barrel, Pat. Nov 25 90, Dec 6 92, July21 96, Feb 22 98, June 14 98, Oct 16 1900.
Barrel #2, sr no 165571, 26" barrel with ribbed pump handel, "12" and "cyl" markimg on barrel, Pat. Nov 25 90, Dec6 92, July 21 96, Feb 22 98, June 14 98, Oct 16 1900

Your description positively identifies it as a "C" series Model 1897 shotgun, with potentially a factory 2-barrel set. Based on the serial number, it was manufactured in the very early months of the year 1902. The shorter 26" barrel with CYL bore enables the gun to be converted to a "Brush Gun", and if original to the gun, adds a lot of value to it.
In order to properly assess the value, I will first need to see a series of clear well iluminated pictures. The second important thing to do is contact the Cody Firearms Musuem and purchase a factory letter for your gun. If the factory letter confirms the second barrel set, the value of your gun goes up considerably.0
