    Hey gang, I have a Winchester Model 101 20 gauge O/U that I have some questions about. I bought it used at a gun show back around 1980 and did not get a box or paperwork with it. It is chambered for 2&3/4 and 3" shells and was made in Japan. The serial # is 223368. I'm trying to find out which choke(s) it has. I can't find any markings on the gun anywhere that would indicate the chokes. The reason I'm asking is I would like to be able to shoot slugs out of it and have heard that I should not shoot slugs through a full choke. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can find out about the chokes on this gun and which would normally be on the top barrel? Thanks so much and have a great day.

    If it has 26" barrel then it's probably IC on the bottom and Mod. on top; 28" is Mod./Full

    Thanks so much for the speedy reply. It has a 26" barrel, so do you think I would be OK shooting slugs out of it?

    It is highly unlikely that both barrels will shoot to the same point of impact like an express rifle. Unless you will be at extreme close range, you might do better to load one barrel with a slug, the other with buckshot. But shoot the gun so you will know for sure.

    The bottom barrel will have the more open choke, probably improved cylinder.

    When you remove the forearm, the choke markings should be visible on the left side of each barrel, just ahead of the lug.

    Yep. The point of impact on a double shotgun is 40 yards. That means both barrels should impact at the same place at 40 yards, after that they cross. A double rifles point of impact is around 100 yds. both barrels cross at that point. A double shotgun does not make a good slug gun past 40 yards unless you just sight it in with one barrel.
