Thompson Contender .223
I just got a Thompson Contender in .223 with a Burris 7 power scope and heavy 14" bull barrel. I know nothing about them . Some info please.

There's a website called "Specialty Pistols" that discusses these things - I have only 3 frames and about 30 barrels, so I'm a novice with the T/Cs. [V]
Anyway, there are two versions of the Contender - old style generally has a couger etched on the side, new style (G2) is unadorned. Each version of the Contender takes "Contender" barrels. You remove the forend, drift out the large retaining pin and switch out barrels. You can generally shoot anything from 22 caliber to about 45/70. Very versatile platform. The Contender is T/C's smaller framed gun, the Encore is larger framed and can shoot pretty much any cartridge that can be fired from a conventional rifle. Encore barrels won't fit on a Contender.
BTW, the Burris is an excellent handgun scope. Handgun scopes are a bit different than rifle scopes - I think you can buy a cheap rifle scope & be OK, buy a cheap handgun scope and it will show pretty quickly. Yours is good.

So, far I only have a 7mm TCU and a .222. The accuracy level of the 7mm TCU is amazing. 3-5" @ 300 yds. With a 140 gr. bullet pushed to 2100 fps. And tons and tons of .223/5.56 cases to form into 7mm TCU's. I do have to neck turn the mil brass though. The .222 is good for 100 yds. but it's open sights and I haven't really pushed the accuracy much. The barrel isn't tapped for a scope.0 -

As much as I like the larger calibers, I think the T/C single shots really do their best in the 22 to about 28 caliber range. Pretty pleasant to shoot and it makes you think about bullet selection, powder and such. It's kind of old now, but the 7-30 Waters is supposed to be quite the round, I was thinking of getting one or maybe even the 25.35. I've got the 25.35 in a rifle barrel and it's surprisingly accurate.
Maybe sometimes there is such a thing as too much to chose from. [:)]0 -
Some things I learned the hardway back when I shot contenders and Gore hadn't invented the internet yet to facilitate research:
1) Watch when you by old contender barrels, if they don't have a vertical notch in the center of the locking lug change it out or mill one in it. Otherwise it breaks an unneeded part of in your frame.
2) The old Armour Alloy guns have different tolerance/dimensions in some respects. Particularly the diameter of the pin holding the barrel into the frame. Been a while, but seems that if you intermix armour alloy frames and barrels you will have to use a armour alloy pin. Actually I don't think it was recommended but it works.
A contender with a .223 super 14 bull barrel bought new for $256 including tax was where I started.0 -
Got a 223 super 14 with a 2X7 Redfield. My favorite ground hog gun. Shoots like a rifle.
Many dead whistle-pigs have been had with it.0 -
Thank You all! How do I know how old is my contender? It does have some engravings on the receiver. The barrel is very heavy 14 inch bull in .223. The SHELLS will not eject? Why? 0 -

They shouldn't eject, they should partially extract. If they are hanging completely in the chamber you may need to:
1. Clean it
2. Check to see if your loads aren't too hot.
3. Worst case scenario is you might have to change out the extractor.0 -

You can call T/C and they'll tell you the DOM. If your frame looks like this:
