I saw a Sako L461 in 222 in a shop last weekend. Has a heavy varmint barrel measuing 21.5" (Blue Book of Gun Values says it should be 23", if it has been cut was very professionally done and refinished). Stock is excellent, bluing excellent. Only other drawback was that 2 set of holes had been drilled in the barrel; 1 set @ 1/2 way down the barrel (Unertil scope mount???) Has the Sako dovetail mounts on the top for the Sako style rings (no rings included). Magazine fed. Older style of rocker safety, kind of stiff to work, not like on the new AIII style rifles. I don't know if pre Garcia or not or how to tell... Asking price is $475. Is this a fair price??? What else should I look for??? Thanks...[?] 0 -
Really need to post pictures to allow the experts to give you an accurate assessment. Original stock? Sako marked barrel? The older actions were often used by custom makers as the basis for their custom work. Value at 90% assuming all original Sako is likely in the $650 to $800 range. If non Sako barrel and stock value can still be in the same range or possibly higher depending on who did the work. Pictures would allow an accurate assessment. You might find some comparable Sakos on the auction side too; check listings but also check closed auctions to see what actual selling prices have been. 0 -
....and is it a deluxe model with high grade wood and skip line checkering? 0 -
FYI:
As a point of reference, I see an L57 in 22-250 listed on this website, starting at $850 with no reserve. It appears to have been rebarreled with a Douglas barrel, and appears to be in very good condition.0 -
I saw that gun , I don't think this one has been rebarreled. The guy I got it from said the old guy that had it from sometime in the 60's. I am going to try and post some pics. Thanks for the info. 0 -
Chablair- The serial number is 4700. The other markings will be proof marks and inspection stamps. The barrel should also yield information that is important to value. Does the barrel have "Forester made in Finland and /or "Bofors barrel steel" stamped on it? The fact that it is a .243 should be a plus for value. Let us know. Thanks, Mike 0 -
$700 +/- 0 -
Pictures added. No other markings on barrel than the 243 Win. 0
