Scope Mounting - Gunsmith ?
I've bought this repro scope mount or an Enfield No4 MkII:

It's all steel and seems very well made. I'm bringing it to my gunsmith so he can drill and tap the rifle. The rifle is a nice Enfield with an import mark, looks great but won't ever be worth big $$$. Bore is excellent, I want to configure it close as possible to an original sniper model.
The No4 is flat sided as are the mounting pads, so there's not much adjusting to be had that way & if any is needed, I know how to shim pretty well. My question concerns ensuring the mount is vertically parallel to the bore.
The front pad (with rounded top) allows the mount to be pitched up or down and that is used to align the mount vertically with the bore. The rear mount has a female "V" notch running its length, the mount has the male "V" protrusion that fit together. The large center hole in the rear pad is not threaded, the large turn in screw on the rear leg of the mount is screwed directly into the receiver.
So, with my (sorry) sketch info, has anyone drllled & tapped for this mount before and can provide guidelines on how to proceed? Which hole should be drilled 1st, 2nd, etc, to preserve the ability for the mount to be adjusted & set vertically parallel to the bore?
My guess (and it's only a guess) is that the large center hole on the rear is drilled & tapped into the receiver first. Then the rear pad is set between the rear leg of the mount and the receiver and the large turn screw snugged up. Then the front mount - with the mounting pad attached to the front leg of the lower mount - is leveled and the center hole drilled & tapped. Then the two smaller rear holes are drilled & tapped, then the remaining two holes for the front pad are drilled & tapped.
Any help on the above appreciated.
