replacing my 1903a3 stock

Hello again folks, got a lot of random questions...

I want to replace the scant stock on my 1903 with a n.o.s. "C" stock. Is all of the metal hardware going to have to be replaced, or will I be able to re-use anything? Would it be smart to go ahead and buy new hardware just in case? I have a new screw set, but what about the front band, stacking swivel, sling swivel, etc. thanks for the advice [8D]

    You will get a repro. Not NOS. The stock will come without the two crossbolts, buttplate, spring retainer, sling clamp and the bayo boss (which has the stacking swivel). You will also need to get a correct rollpin to use in the rear receiver bolt channel.

    The front bayo/stacking swivel bracket can't be removed without removing the front sight. Best to leave them alone, and fit the new stock to it.

    There are used "C" stocks out there to be had..and will come with the rear receiver rollpin, and the crossbolts already installed. Be prepared for final fitting if you get a new repro stock. Usually not so if you buy a stock that has been fit to an '03A3 in the past. Best, Joe

    Items you will need for a new stock:
    Rear rollpin
    Two crossbolt assemblies
    Final inletting/fitting

    Items you will need for a used "C" stock:
    Check with seller. Make sure you have the rollpin and the crossbolts. Front band spring retainer a plus (difficult to swap from stock to stock)

    Items you can swap from the original stock to place on a new stock:
    Buttplate assembly
    Spring retainer (need to clean area thoroughly prior to removal, or may damage)
    Front sling retainer ring w/screw
    Rear sling swivel

    Look at your rifle. See the two "buttons" on either side(that extend laterally through the stock from side to side?) Those are the crossbolts.

    Now, you will have two screws holding the receiver to the stock. The one behind the trigger is going through the stock, but there's a steel sleeve in the stock to prevent "crush" when tightening the screw. A new stock won't have it. Best, Joe

    Look at Blairweescot's link. They are NOS!! When contacting the supplier, ask if he'll fit (or at least supply you with) the rear-bolt rollpin and the reinforcing bolts. Best again, Joe
