Bayonet help
I just had a guy show up with a box full of gun stuff that he didn't want, in the box was this bayonet.
Any ideas what gun it goes to?
He is coming back on Friday with more stuff including some guns his dad kept at a family cabin before he passed away.

I recently aquired a 1903a3 and the seller threw in this old bayonet. Im almost positive the scabbard is wrong for it, but for 20 bucks, i dont mind adding it to the collection. maybe the scabbard is for something foreign? but I dont know that much about either peice right now. Anyone offer any input of either of them? Thanks a lot. Pictures in the link below.

Don't know anything specific about the bayonet and scabbard, other then the lower case letter with the 4 digit number is how the krauts marked their stuff. Chances are thats where there from, or were used by. 0 -

You have a U.S. M1905 bayonet made by, I think, Oneida. Many M1905's were cut down.
Can't tell the blade length from the photos. The scabbard is
of a common WWII german issue.
Pics below are of my 1942 M1905 bayonet on a mid-'42 Remington '03.
Markings indicate manufacture by Utica Cutlery.
Notice blade length. Now, notice the photo immediately above, and compare it with my closeup below. Notice that yours is too dark? It's been reblued, and compare both blade edges. Yours has been sharpened. Those are critical items to a collector, for future reference. Good Luck! Best, Joe

O.L. over 'U' bomb and 'S'. and Date of Mfg 1943 under the bomb....The O.L. is the maker..< ONEIDA LTD > Made the Pattern # 12..You might consider placing an Ad on the Wanted Portion of the Forums..The Book I use for American Knives, Bayonets and Machetes by M.H. Cole, Book 111..Page # 32...The Scabbard appears to be from a Cut Down Mauser bayonet..

I'm gonna toss in two cents here
Here's a Model of 1905 bayonet ("M"1905 really isn't the name, they didn't use that terminology at the time, it was "Model of" 1905). This is a Springfield, 1919, with the original walnut grips
Only the 16" bayonets made before 1942, to my knowledge, are "Model of 1905" bayonets
In 1942, the US made new 16" bayonets. They were called.... M1942 bayonets
They had full length fullers as far as I know, just like the one pictured above, on a 16" blade. Soon it was determined a shorter bayonet was advantageous. They cut down model of 1905s and 16" M1942s, and made "M1905E1" bayonets out of them, with 10" blades. They had "bowie" or "spear" points, and the fuller continued right to the end of the blade, since they were cut 6" short
Next, they made bayonets in the M1942 pattern but with 10" blades to begin with. These I believe are simply "M1 bayonets"
Since your bayonet seems to not be a cut-down (hard to tell from the pics but the fuller seems to terminate before the tip), I would have to surmise this is an M1 bayonet, or possibly a transition M1942, but not an "M1905" bayonet
