24 gauge double barrel
I have what I believe is a 24 gauge double barrel shotgun. I think it is at least 80 years old. How can I find out more about this gun? It's value?

You can start by posting good photos here, along with listing ALL markings on the gun. If you go over to the general discussion forum, there is a sticky at the start, tells how to post photos. 24 guage is very unusual- have only seen a few. The H&R 32 ga. was used as a tranquilizer dart projector for animal control (firing blanks, of course). It was marketed as the "KAP-ture" model. 0 -
These rare small gauges are rare for a reason, they are in between 2 other gauges that became more popular. The 20 gauge is a great all around compromise if a 12 is too heavy or too much firepower for the small game you are targeting. The next major step down is 28 gauge which remains fairly popular - going from 20 down to 24 is not a big enough difference. The same argument applies to the 32 gauge, it is not different enough from either the 28 gauge or the .410, both of which became preferred.
The only exception to the in-between gauge becoming obsolete is the 16 gauge - these still suit the needs of enough hunters to remain a prevalent choice, however their peak of popularity in the 1950's through 1960's has passed. My father always preferred the 16. But, it is hard to see 12's and 20's losing their 1 and 2 positions.0
