    Romanian Dragunov- im thinking about buying one does anyone know anything about these rifles, ie function,accuracy...etc..

    have seen those type rifles in 308. but never 06.

    These are only made in 7.52x54R, There were some Chinese Draganov's that were made in .308. Of course there are the Yugo M76's in 8mm as well on the market. 7.62x54R ammo is easy to find and runs in the .22-.25 cents per rd by the can or case as of the moment. There is a lot on this auction site.

    You can get a russian siaga in 30-06.. But If I had to choose I'd go with a Romanian PSL..

    The Romanian PSL isnt a dragunov at all. It is a slightly larger version of the AK heavy longstoke piston system. The dragunov is a light weight short stroke design similar to the SKS.

    The PSL is interesting and accurate enough if you put some time and money into mastering and personalizing it to your needs. I have used a buddies highly specialized rifle to make hits on a 6" plate at 600 yards pretty much consistantly with russian 7N1, and the last time we spoke he said he had made hit even farther since he started reloading.

    My rifle is prettymuch stock with a posp scope.

    As to accuracy, bluntly, if you're expecting sub-minute of angle sniper-type accuracy, you probably won't find it here. I think 2-3" at 100 yards is a more reasonable expectation.

    Surplus Commie bloc 7.62x54 is still readily available, and currently costs roughly $0.20-$0.25 per round in quantity, making it probably the cheapest of the surplus centerfire rifle cartridges out there right now.

    *All* of the surplus ammo is corrosive.

    Non-corrosive commerical loads are also readily available, but cost considerably more per round. (Though still less than comparable rounds like .308).

    So far as I know this particular gun was never chambered in 30-'06.

    For what its worth, the 7.62x54R cartridge itself is ballistically quite similar to a standard .30-'06, lying almost exactly in between typical .308 and .30-06 power levels with similar bullet weights.

    So there is nothing really a .30-06 version of this gun would do for you that the stock one can't, except maybe allow you to share ammo with other .30-06 guns you have.

    if you were to do a home build like an AK with the PSL do you need the us made parts? 10rd mag, no bayonet lug, no pistol grip. only the break.

    I had a Romanian "Dragunov" years ago. If I remember correctly the PSL is the exact same thing and it is also known as the SSG-97. I don't know about your experience but mine was average .75MOA accurate and sometimes even .5MOA accurate when I had mine. When I bought mine it even had the bayonet lug on it with an auto bolt disconnector in it also. These are no-no's during the Clinton assault ban era. The distributor found out about the mix up and the FBI arranged to have my rifle modified (auto bolt disconnector and bayonet lug removed and also the pin hole for the disconnector welded up. The gun shot way better than my m39 ever did and recoil was much more pleasant because it is a semi-auto. The only thing I did not like was the short butt stock and the poor cheekweld due to the offset PSO-1 optics I had and poor butt stock design. Because of my stupidity I sold the rifle (but I ended up selling it at the same price I bought it for). I wished I never sold that gun; it was my best 7.62x54R rifle I have ever owned.
