WINCHESTER M1885 LOW-WALL .22

I have a fine, .22 short "winder" that circumstances compel me to part with. it's 96-98% - nearly 100% blue, incl. on the trademark strap behind the hammer. bore is super - very bright with deep rifling.

seems these days $2500-3000 is the norm for a real clean one. sound about right?

    Just looking at the completed auctions here and on a couple other sites, a good to very good winder is more in the $1200 to $1600 range. Of course, condition is a huge factor in price.
    If you do put it on the GB auction side, put a notice here in the forums so we can check it out.

    We have a few of very good Winchester experts here on this forum. I am sure if you posted numerous well lit, up close and in focus pictures of the various markings, and sights, top of the frame ring, and other area's those experts would be willing to help.

    You might see some 1885's going for higher dollars, but rarely does even a good winder bring more than $1200.00. To get into the amounts you have suggested, it would have to be almost unfired with the box condition.

    I do know what the urge is of thinking that "this is excellent condition for its age"...type reasoning. That is not what the 90-100% means on judging the condition of a Winchester or Colt(of which we cannot tell without a hands on or lots of very clear pictures). Near 100% had better look showroom fresh.

    You are very lucky if your "Winder " has a great shiny bore one thing about most of these rifles is they were used with black powder shells and the bores can be horrid even with the outside on the gun near mint. Lets hope BERT H gets back home in time to answer your post.

    "Wider" M85s and M94s are at the low end of the spectrum of collectible Winchesters.

    It appears that you have a Third variation Model 87 Winder Musket (low-wall). If it truly is in 90% condition, and it is ordnance marked, you should be able to get about $1400 - $1600 for it (most likely closer to the lower number), but only if you sell it to a collector. If it is not ordnance marked, knock off at least $250.

    yup don't think mine's been fired much at all - looks better than the cody museum's example. a pretty weapon to be sure.

    and yes I've prev. heard ammo corroded the heck out of many barrels.

    mine's ordnance marked behind the hammer.

    re fotos: can I please email a few lorez pix to someone to post for me? attachment-wise, my 'puter's been on the fritz lately...
