Winchester Collector??

I have a friend that has the following:

Winchester .22 cal rifle
Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven Conn. USA
October 7, 1879
Serial Number: 121654
Musket Style stock "Winder"

Can anyone tell me if this is a significant collector's gun?

  Well, it depends on what you consider a "significant collector's gun". Among Winchester 1885 collector's, it is towards the bottom of the food chain, though every Single Shot collector should have one. In really nice condition, you might be able to get $1500 for it.

  Actually, it is a Model 87 "Winder" Musket. The serial number tells me that it is an early 1918 vintage gun. Most of the Model 87s were delivered to the U.S. Army, and as such, they will have a "U S" and a flaming ordnance bomb stamped on the upper part of the receiver frame right behind the hammer. Is your Winder Musket ordnance marked?
  
  If your Model 87 is ordnance marked, and in 100% original factory configuration, it is worth a minumum of $1,000. If it has been altered in any fashion, cut the value in half. If the graded condition is better than 75%, the value will be somewhat higher than the minimum I mentioned. Top-end value (for one in near mint condition) is in the $1800 area.
  
  Winchester manufactured just shy of 13,000 Model 87s from January 1918 through late 1923 (all of them made after June 1920 were parts clean-up guns).
