    he says only a short serial number. There might be more under the stock, sorry I don't know

    From the photos, it looks like a Type I rifle to me. This was a contract rifle made for the Japanese military, by the Italians in the late 1930's. The stock has been painted black. Even in excellent original condition they usually don't bring a lot of money. Without more quality photos hard to give you any more information.

    The Type I was often issued to Japanese Naval troops. And the Japanese Navy did paint some rifles black. The paint could be original.

    It looks like a home-made bolt bending job.
    I knew a guy who did that once, after drinking 5 Heinekens, he pulled the bolt on a Mauser, gripped the bolt in the vice grips, fired up the propane torch and bent that bolt.
    Not too pretty, but it worked. Looked just like this bolt.

    I have one of the late war Cast Iron Naval trainers thats painted black over the receiver and stock. Wasn't aware that they also painted their functional military rifles that way?

    Yes, I had a Series 10 that was black once.
