I wanted to get some opinions and really appreciate the replys that I got to my post

Oh boy... how condescending! I am not the person who designed the gun-It's not "my baby".
I have no persoanl attachment to either and wanted to hear all that what was said about the 597 or the 10/22.
While new to this particular gun forum- I have been on gun and other forums of all types for years and enjoy them all.
I think that they are the best source of answers, hyperbole, opinion and fact,in the cyber-world.
My friendly advice to you, is to ease up on the "expert" condescending BS attitude.0 -

Ford says "ruger 10/22 metal and wood...remington plastic and more plastic..which do you prefer????"
Ever heard of a "Glock".
Many, many synthetic stock 10/22's out there. If I were to buy a 10/22, it wouldn't be that ugly, cheap looking, wood model anyway!
Plastics and sythetics out-perform, out-last,and are more durable than the lower cost model firearm's made with wood.0 -
I have never had or shot the 597 so cant say from experience with that gun.. But when it comes to the ruger 10/22 you cant go wrong[;)]. They are fun and accurate guns, cant beat being able to customize them however you want.. Thats half the fun IMO[:D][8D] 0 -

10/22's metal? I know they USED to be but now the barrel bands plastic, the trigger group is plastic, the receiver is aluminum. My 597 has a laminate thumbhole stockm and a cf coated barrel. I bet there is as much "real" steel and wood in mine as any new 10/220 -
I'd be leery of the 597 on the grounds that Remington is currently doing a recall on a model and not refunding at cost.. As tod says, the newer 10/22s arent as well made as they once where either.. I'd almost tell you too look into one of thomson centers semi auto rimfires as they are nicer rifles. Or to go with a boltaction.. 0 -

Read the sticky at the top of the Ask the Experts forum, explaining that the threads in this forum are automatically locked at 10 posts, just for that reason...usually there is no more valuable information after 10.
It seems that you have already formed your own opinion, and are looking for justification to buy a 597. So...don't look for that here from guys with the know. The 597 was a POS from the get go, and still is.

Topics get locked regularly after ten responses because the administration at this board feels that most questions are answered after ten responses. Probably 90% of the time that's true, with no good new information being added after the first 5 or 6 responses.
With respect to your question, I'd get the 10/22.
Its not a question of which is metal and which is wood (I believe both guns are available in plastic or wood stocked versions), but just that the 10/22 is a well-regarded, highly reliable, and highly customizable platform.
If there is any part of it you don't like (stock, barrel, trigger, etc), you can generally improve that part with relatively inexpensive drop-in aftermarket parts.
That can't be said of the 597, which also has a reputation for feeding/magazine problems.0 -

On your previous thread, you recieved numerous reply's(6 out of 8 that were not your posts') supporting the 10/22 over the 597. I was not the only one. I can attest that the 597 is nothing but a slightly upgraded version of the Viper. I worked on numerous ones for customers....a lot more than the 10/22. Most ended up trading or selling their 597 for something different.
So as I said, guys with the know, who have sold them and worked on them...there are many in your previous thread. Like I said previously the steel challenge boys will attest to the accuracy of the 10/22.

For the money, as mentioned by someone, get a T-C R-55. Mine is a tack driver right out of the box. Didn't need a custom barrel like most 10-22's do.
The Viper I had was a POS from new, and the 597 is a POS copy of it.Look at the parts break down of it [V][xx(]0
