ithaca model 37

I have acquired 2 Ithaca Model 37s. I would like to know the year each was made, I believe they are from the early 50s. The first serial number is: 18758x and the other is: 18436x. I appreciate any help you can offer.

    I saw one of these at the gunshow today for like $317 or $371. I think it said Ithaca Model 37 lightweight or something. I love the classic look but i am curious on to how much its really worth ? any insight.

    What length shells does the gun use? What is the length of the shells you are using?? [:)]

    You will need to take the receiver apart to get bolt away from the barrel, so it can be removed. The stock bolt needs to be loosened before you can get the rear screw out..
    I would look at the inside of the chamber to see if it's rusted or messed up some how after the barrel is off and the empty is driven out.....

    Put a cleaning rod or a wood dowel down the barrel and tap on it with a hammer while at the same time working the slide. That should open the action. Then look for the cause of the problem.

    Had the same problem. The stock retaining screw puts tension on the receiver screws and MUST be removed before attempting to take the receiver screws out and the gun apart.
    This has to be a chronic problem with these guns and I couldn't dope it out. Mine was 30 years old but brand new. The previous owner must have gotten disgusted with it and didn't use it. I Dremel polished all moving and sliding parts but it would still jam and lock up.
    A trip to Ithaca, $50 and five minutes later they fixed the gun. They wouldn't tell me what they did but it must have been a factory defect they fixed and charged me for. Now it's very slick and smooth operating.
    Someone knows what the defect is and it isn't a big job to correct. It's not cleaning or maintenance.

    thanks so much for your imput..wont have time until tomm to try to get the shell out...will post with my results

    I have also seen this type of problm and in that case the barrel was slightly mis aligned and with the magazine cap loosened and a slight moving the barrel lug back and forth the bolt was released and could be opened.

    popped it out with a cleaning rod.. while rocking the action....came out, havent had a chance to shoot it again, but i couldnt find anything wrong with the shell brass or the ejection parts??????.....it was low brass shell, but the last one i had worked just fine with that...dont really know what else to look for as far as that jam......will know more after i shoot it again...thank you all for your help....bob
