U.S. Military Savage 755A?

Hi i am a military collector of edge wepons, and some guns, but this one has me stumped any help is greatly appreciated. I just got a Savage model 755A semi auto marked (U.S. serial number 590911) it is a 16 gauge 2 3/4. I have found some info on it (civilan model)but nothing on the military end. it also has notches in the bottome of the receiver and one side is also stamped 721 like it is a rack number.did remove the barrel and the serial number dose match, only thing is the numbering on the barrel dose not look as clean and prononced as the receiver. Thanks for any help. john

ps just got it today so i have done nothing to it as far as cleaning etc. dont mind me new here so trying to do a search on how to post pictures i have, lol

    Instructions for posting photos can be found on a sticky near the top of the first page of this forum. I'd really like to see the markings you describe. Generally, we would expect it to be marked US PROPERTY with an ordnance acceptance mark (flaming bomb).

    Many firearms were purchased locally for recreational use by military bases, & loaned out to the military & their families. This could be one of those.

    War Department TM 9-285, dated Sept. 21, 1942, entitled Shotguns, All Type lists a Savage M720 but no 755A. All shotguns listed are 12 GA. I suspect your shotgun was post Rod and Gun Club property. In general, uniformity of ammunition for military use would preclude the 16 ga for military usage, except for checkout and use for hunting by rod and gun club members.

    is it possable that tis gun was a 12 gague and some one changed barrels for hunting purposes, maybe useing of a kid? and in the pitures dose the serial number look a little funny to you like the barrel was restamped?

    I am not certain about the model in question but generally more is required in changing guages than just swapping barrels.
