Older Made in USA Weaver Scopes

I recently was asked by my dying father- in- law to do something with several of his guns. Two of which have Weaver, Made in USA scopes on them. I've been a shooter for many years but up until now never had any exposure to Weaver scopes. Someone told me that Weaver was now or up until a few years ago being manufactured offshore. I'm hoping to find someone here in the US that can give me some info and possibly service one of these scopes. Any help would be appreciated.[:)]

    It may or may not be an issue for you in terms of repair costs, but be aware that many of the Weaver scopes (the Fords of their day) command relative modest prices, most under $100, a few twice that or a bit more. Things like K-4 and K-6 scopes can be had at most any gunshow for $60 or less.

    I would get a handle on their values before sending them off for work, as the previous poster noted. Generally the earlier versions with the serial numbered steel tubes would be expected to have greater value. Check fleabay, at one time they had many Weavers on offer. If they still allow scopes on their auction, you might get a idea of what the actual ballpark values of yours are.

    The older steel Weaver scopes are fairly well sought after by folks who buy guns made in the 1940s through the late 60s, maybe into the 70s, and want them "period" correct. I have more than a few on some Remington 721s, Savage 99 and an NRA Sporter. Take a look at the auction side of GB and you'll see a few. It's not unusual to find them in the strong $100.00 price range if it's a 10X with adjustable objective or a post type reticle.

    A plain old 4X in excellent shape is generally in the $25.00 to $45.00 price range at gun shows, depending on show location from what I've found. The 3 to 9X variable is higher. Th straight tubed 1.5 to 4.5 is tough to find, and if you get one with a post reticle it seems to fetch a good price.
