Ruger 10/22 or Remington 597 ?

    597 more accurate (generally) 10/22 tried, proven and reliable. A lot of people have been having reliability issues with their 597's. I have one, and it has run like a watch for me. I think most of the issues with the 597 .22 lr's was with the early magazines

    I have had 3 597s, and never had an issue with reliability, mags are extremely easy to load, but the guns I've had werent as accurate as I'd like.. 10/22s are just as reliable and in my opinion more accurate and easier to work on.

    It's hard to go wrong with the 10/22.

    It seems that many like the change parts and avail. of upgrades etc..
    Not really looking to do all that.
    I have read that the 597 is more accurate and they fixed the mag problems.

    I have opp. to get a 597 2008 stainless as new in box with scope (low end factory Rem scope 3-9x32) for
    $210.00
    The 10/22 stainless will cost $240.00 no scope.

    I would get the 10/22. One of Big Greens major quality issue is that damn 597.

    The 10/22 was here years before the 597, and has proven itself reliable and accurate. You say you don't want nothing to do with the aftermarket goodies that the 10/22 has to offer at this time, but what about 10 years down the road. You have heard the 597 is more accurate? Why do all the Steel Challenge guys in the 3 gun competition run a 10/22?

    Just my honest opinion.

    The 597 in 17 is under recall... and they are only giving a 200 card good towards another remington product for it.

    So.. if one cal is under recall, what does that tell you about the others?

    Also, they aren't refunding money - they are giving you less than your cost to buy some more of their stuff.

    Just based on that alone, I'd get just about anything besides a Remington, 597 or not.

    FWIW my kids (almost 6 and just turned 9) like both the 10/22 and a Glenfield (marlin) mdl 60.

    We sell 10x more Ruger 10/22's then Rem 597's.. My opinion is they are junk much like some of their other crap like the Viper etc.. GO RUGER !!
