J.D. Dougall Shotguns

I have purchased a J.D. Dougall Hammer Gun. I am trying to find out how much it's worth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Boothroyd's "Directory of British Gunmakers" lists James Dalziel Dougall of London and Glasgow, founded 1816 ---- "1875: Still in business at 39 Gordon Street, Glasgow" Nice gun, but I'm not qualified to estimate value.

    Agree that James D. Dougall & Son was an English gun maker from 1857 to 1928 ,(my reference only goes up to 1940). English made guns were usually of high quality but value depends on condition, amount of original finish left on the metal and wood and mechanical condition as well as how the barrels were constructed (solid steel or damascus). Without a good and honest description or a good photo, there is no way to give an evaluation.

    I am very familiar with J.D. Dougall. I own three of his guns.
    The value of your gun is primarly dependent on the condition of the barrels. If they are not rusted through, badly pitted, or too thin, then the gun can be restored. Otherwise, the gun is probably worth about $250 to $350. I would like to see the gun restored. If I can help you determine if the gun can be restored and how to go about it, plese contact me though gunbroker.com
