ammo 22 rimfire for Remington 1890

This is my auction. Is this a special cartridge or is it interchangeable with something else? If so what

  Hello I always thought this cartridge was made for the remington model 16 semi auto rifle Close to the cartridge used in the Winchester model 03 Auto both cartridges and rifles were designed slightly different then 22 long rifle so the cartridge WOULD NOT work with black powder 22 long rifle shells.

  In 1890 the .22 Winchester Rim Fire (WRF) was introduced. This cartridge is loaded with a 45 grain, flat point, inside lubricated bullet with a full diameter heel, rather than the tapered heel bullet of the .22 LR. The .22 WRF fires a .224" diameter bullet, just like modern centerfire .22s and the later .22 Magnum (WMR). At one time a 40 grain HP bullet was also available, but it has since fallen by the wayside.
  
  Remington called this cartridge the .22 Remington Special, and loaded it with a 45 grain RN bullet. The .22 Rem. Spec. and .22 WRF are the same cartridge and are interchangeable.

  Depends on what "special" is. In this case, while it's interchangeable with another cartridge, neither one is something you'll find at your local x-mart. You MIGHT find some at a gun show, but you won't be buying boxes of them, more like single cartridges at $1+ each.
  IIRC there is a company that contracts a limited run of them, every 20 years or so, so you might actually be able to purchase a full box now and than.
  While they are the length of a 22lr case, they are the diameter of the 22mag.

  I think there's confusion between 22WRF, same as 22 Remington Special and the 22Winchester Automatic for the 03 and its' Remington equivalent which the also called 22 Winchester Automatic on their ammo boxes.

  Several different firearm manufacturers chambered guns for the Winchester Rimfire, or WRF cartridge. Remington didn't want to sell one of their's using a competitors named ammunition. So they made their own and called it Remington Special. Winchesters WRF and Remington Special are interchangeable and identical. Neither will work in the Winchester 1903, which takes a totally different cartridge.
  
  Here is a box of Peters that shows it's for both WRF and Remington Special. Also new WRF ammunition is readily available now and is being made by CCI.

  With the flat nose 45 gr bullet, it is really an excellent small game cartridge.
