Dubiel Arms Co.
I purchased a Cal. 257/ Model 98 bolt action rifle made by Dubiel Arms Co. My friend who I purchased it from states it was made for his uncle about 1930-1940 time frame. I have found that Joseph Dubiel built different custom rifles during that period and about 1970's the Dubiel Arms Co was making custom rifles for about 10 years or so. I intend on using it for deer hunting but am curious as to its value and history. I have pictures if it will help

John Dubiel was a gunsmith here in Ardmore, OK in the 1930s. Joe Dubiel was his son. I recall as a kid riding my bicycle out to the old "gun factory" where John had his shop. He tolerated us kids. It was said that John had been foreman at the Hoffman Gun works when it operated here in the 1920s. He went to the great gunshop in the sky mid '30s. Hoffmans are aguably the finest American made guns of the time and fetch major prices today.
I saw a gun by John Dubiel, then owned by Joe, probably of Hoffman quality. Joe was a couple years ahead of me in school, known for participation in highschool wrestling. He had a shop here in the late '40s, later becoming known in Denison, TX for custom rifles. He passed around 1990..

I made a typo and meant to say that based on when the gun was made John Dubiel possibly built the rifle , but the barrel is stamped "Dubiel Arms Co."??? My friend who sold me the rifle said the rifle was made around 1930-40. Since the uncle has since passed away is there a way of verifying any of this hearsay? 0
