M14 buttplate disassembly.

How difficult is it to disassemble a M14 buttplate? I would like to refinish a couple and cannot find instructions anywhere. Thanks in advance.

  I is not all that difficult. The major parts are secured by pins which have to be driven out and keep in mind that there is a small ball-detent with a spring which is sure to fly out and be lost as soon as the plate is disassembled. The trap door is also secured by a pin and once that pin is removed the door's spring and plunger will be free to fly away if not restrained.
