JG's ammo prices are generally competitive, if not better than most.

If they'll let you show up in person and honor their internet prices (and that is not always a "given") then that's probably a pretty good bet.

While you might be able to find a *little* bit better prices elsewhere (eg http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Sliver_Bear_9x18_94grn_FMJ_.html ), it probably won't be much of a difference, and unless you are ordering a *TON* of ammo, any savings would probably evaporate once you factored in shipping and handling charges.

Also, if you're REALLY buying a lot of ammo (eg more than 4-5 cases), then it couldn't hurt to ask for a small bulk discount. At worst they'll say no.

If I were you, I'd just call J&G to confirm pricing and availability, ask them to set aside however many cases that you need, pick it up and forget about it.

As to which 9x18 is the best, that depends a little bit on what you are going to use it for. For simple plinking/practicing the cheap steel case stuff ought to be fine.

If you want to reload the cases, you'll need boxer-primed brass case ammo, which eliminates the Wolf and Silver Bear. (It basically just leaves the S&B or other better brands). Given the relatively low cost of the steel case ammo at $0.20 per round, it may not even pay to reload it.

If you want to actually carry the stuff, you could *consider* hollowpoint ammo. Here's some ridiculously cheap steel case hollowpoint; I don't know if they actually have any product available at the listed price, nor what the shipping charges are:

The *best* "defense" type ammo is probably premium ammo like Corbon, but that's going to be quite expensive (eg $0.75-$1.00 per round), and I doubt you'll want to be buying it by the case.
